CeF3 nanophosphors with remarkable optical properties have been proposed as possible phosphors for lighting and various bio-applications. In the present paper, CeF3:RE3+ (Ln3+ : Nd3+ Sm3+ Eu3+, Gd3+, Tb3+, Dy3+, Ho3+, Er3+, Tm3+ and Yb3+) and CeF3codoped (Yb3+ Nd3+), (Tb3+ Yb3+), (Yb3+ Eu3+), (Yb3+ Ho3+), (Ho3+ Nd3+), (Ho3+ Er3+), (Yb3+ Er3+) (Ho3+ Tb3+) nanocrystals were obtained by co-precipitation method. Nanoparticles of a spherical shaped morphology and particle size 9-12 nm were observed. X-Ray diffraction (XRD), high resolutiontransmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoluminescence (PL) were employed to characterize the samples. A detailed energy level diagram that contains the position of the levels of all the trivalent lanthanide ions has been constructed for doped CeF3 and explained along with the energy transfer process from one dopant to the other in the codopedCerium Fluoride nanophosphors. It has great potential applications in Light Emitting Devices, solid-state lasers, telecommunications, opto-electronics, biological labels and remote sensing.
