Evaluation of Canine Retraction with Self Ligating Brackets Versus Conventional Edges wise Brackets ? A Comparative In Vivo Study

Nilotpol Kashyap

Introduction: The continual evolution and modification of the orthodontic brackets is an endless process. The self-ligating brackets are the latest modifications which claim better treatment results at a faster rate with lesser discomfort to the patient. Aim: To evaluate the efficiency of canine retraction between the selfligating and the conventional brackets under similar conditions. Methodology: The study included a total of 6 bimaxillary protruded cases which required the first premolar extraction which were bonded with a Damon 3 bracket on maxillary canine and conventional MBT brackets selected randomly. The retraction of canine was done on both sides with equal forces and round 0.16 inches stainless steel wire. The comparison of different parameters on both sides was done and conclusion was drawn as routine clinical studies steps and guidelines. Results: Comparison resulted in the better rate of canine retraction in SLB which states the better efficiency of retraction rate under prescribed conditions. The significance of the comparison was taken and was not clinically significant. Conclusion: The rate of canine retraction between self-ligating (Damon3) brackets and conventional MBT brackets was not significant
